10 Scriptures for Troubling Times

If you’ve been watching the news lately or scrolling social media you’ve probably been bombarded with images and stories of tragedy after tragedy. Thousands of COVID related deaths, young men and women being killed in the streets, children being abducted, mass shootings...the list goes on. It seems as though we receive an endless flow of bad news and devastating information.

Now more than ever, it is important to lean on our communities and get into the Word. We all need support right now. So be sure to surround yourself with people you can trust, people whom with you can identify, that hold space for your pain but also encourage you in the Lord.

We are not here to marginalize the grief and frustration many are facing right now.  We want to uplift one another in prayer and compassion during these troubling times.  Below we have listed some of our favorite scriptures to revisit when the weight of the world seems a bit much.

Psalm 46:1-3 God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging.

Isaiah 41:10 So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

John 14:27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.

John 16:33 I have told you these things, so that in Me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.

Romans 8:37-39 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

2 Corinthians 1:3 Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.

Isaiah 51:3 The Lord will surely comfort Zion, and will look with compassion on all her ruins; he will make her deserts like Eden, her wastelands like the garden of the LordJoy and gladness will be found in her, thanksgiving and the sound of singing.

Romans 15:13 May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Romans 8:35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword? No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.

Ephesians 6:12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.
