Each day that we wake up it’s important for us to remember who we are and who’s we are. We are children of God. He has destined us for greatness. We can not let the tools of the enemy trick us. One of the enemy’s biggest tools is fear.
Today we are taking a deeper look at the popular verse 2 Timothy 1:7.
It reads 7 For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.
Many of us may see the word fear and say “I’m not afraid”. But fear shows up in many different ways. Fear is hidden in doubt, insecurity, second-guessing, low self-worth, nervousness, anxiety, panic, overwhelm, even jealousy. When we break it down like this, many of us experience these daily, we experience fear. Fear is used by the enemy to pull us farther from God. Farther from our faith in Him, farther from what we know is true, farther from His promises. Whenever we feel these things, it’s important to remind ourselves that these are tricks of the enemy. Instead, we should work to ground ourselves in His promises.
2 Timothy 1: 7 also tells us that God has given us power, love, and a sound mind.
Power. What does it mean to have power? Power is the ability to do or act on something- the authority over oneself and the environment. The God of the Universe has given us power in our lives. Psalms 121: 1-2 reminds us “I lift up my eyes to the mountains—where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.” Our power is rooted in The Lord Almighty who created this Earth. This is the authority we have access to in our lives.
Love. Love is so powerful. The bible speaks of loving our neighbor all throughout its’ text. Love for one’s self and one another is the basis for reflecting the love of God in the world. Love works against the spirits of jealousy, envy, hate, misunderstanding, intolerance, selfishness, greed, war. Proverbs 10:12 tells us “ Hatred stirs up conflict, but love covers over all wrongs.”. The Love that our Father has for us can be seen in the sacrifice of Jesus Christ. This love covers all wrongs. Let us extend that same love to ourselves and others.
Sound mind. We have been given a sound mind. This means God has given us peace. Mental, spiritual, and emotional peace. The chaos we may experience in the world is not of God. It is a tool to derail us from remembering what we have been given. Peace in our hearts. We can have peace knowing that God will always provide for us, watch over us and that He has a plan. Philippians 4: 6-6 reads: 6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
We encourage you to repeat this verse to yourself throughout the day. Remind yourself who you are and who’s you are. Tell us how this small verse transforms your week in the comments!
