It Might Just Be in the Resting Phase
Feel like your hair has hit a plateau? Like no matter what you do, it’s just not growing?
Before you panic or overhaul your routine, there’s something you need to know: your hair might just be in the resting phase.
So, welcome to our Hair Growth Series, where we’re diving into the facts that can transform your perspective and your patience.
In today’s blog, I’m breaking down:
✔️ The 4 natural phases of hair growth
✔️ Why you might not be seeing visible length
✔️ How to stay consistent and support your strands through every season
If you’ve been wondering why your hair seems “stuck” or uneven in length, this blog is for you. Let’s get into it.
The Hidden Phases of Hair Growth You Need to Know
Here’s what many people don’t realize: your hair is always growing, but not all of it grows at the same time. Instead, it follows a growth cycle with four main phases—and where your hair is in that cycle affects what you see (or don’t see) in the mirror.
Anagen – The Growth Phase
✔ This is the phase where your hair is actively growing.
✔ It can last 3 to 7 years, depending on your genetics and overall health.
✔ Around 85–90% of your hair is typically in this phase.
During this stage, your strands are pushing out of the follicle and getting longer day by day. If you’re retaining length and seeing growth, your hair is likely in anagen.
➡ Want to support growth? Focus on scalp care, deep hydration, and protective styling.
Catagen – The Transition Phase
✔ A short, 2–3 week phase where hair stops growing.
✔ The hair follicle begins to shrink and detach from the blood supply.
Only 1–2% of your hair is in this phase at any given time. It’s a normal shift and doesn’t mean anything is wrong—it’s just your hair transitioning.
Telogen – The Resting Phase
✔ No new growth happens here—but no shedding either.
✔ This phase lasts about 3 months.
✔ Around 10–15% of your hair may be in this phase.
This is the part of the cycle that causes the most confusion. You’re not seeing new length, but it doesn’t mean growth has stopped—it’s just paused. Your follicles are resting, and that’s 100% normal.
➡ Many people give up here thinking their hair isn’t growing—when in fact, it’s just taking a break.
Exogen – The Shedding Phase
✔ This is when hair strands naturally fall out.
✔ You shed 50 to 100 hairs per day, and that’s healthy.
✔ It allows space for new strands to begin the cycle again.
Shedding is not the enemy—it’s part of the renewal process.
➡ If you’re shedding more than usual, check your routine, stress levels, and diet but don’t assume it’s always damage.
So... Is Your Hair Really Not Growing?
Just because you don’t see length doesn’t mean your hair isn’t growing. It might just be in the telogen (resting) or catagen (transition) phase. Or maybe you're experiencing breakage that's canceling out the growth you're achieving.
Hair growth is not linear, and some strands grow faster than others. That’s why you might see uneven lengths or feel like your growth has stalled when really, your hair is just cycling.
How to Support Growth During Every Phase
Figure Out Your Growth Rate
Track how much your hair grows in a month so you have a baseline. Most people see ½ inch per month, but this varies.
Trim When Necessary
Trimming doesn’t make hair grow faster, but it prevents split ends from traveling up the strand and breaking off healthy length.
Scalp Massages Matter
Boost blood flow and reduce stress with regular scalp massages using oils like our Invigorate Sealing Oil.
Moisturize + Seal
Keep strands strong and hydrated with our Nourish Moisturizing Cream and Enrich Leave-In Conditioner.
Be Patient + Stay Consistent
Hair growth is a marathon not a sprint. Stay faithful to your routine and trust the process.

Final Thoughts: Trust the Process, Honor the Phases
Your hair might not always look like it’s growing but that doesn’t mean it’s not. Growth happens beneath the surface first. When you understand the phases of the hair cycle, you’ll stop panicking during the resting phase and start celebrating the slow, steady wins.
